Jesus: Our Eternal Hero
Selfless, Sacrificial, Willing, Victorious…..it’s what I think about when I reflect on the death of Christ. As a young Christian the idea was very complex. I didn’t understand why Jesus had to die in order for us to live.
Even with more growth it is still mind blowing to fathom how God could give His only son, and that his Son (Christ) would be willing to go through with it. By this one act, all who believed on Him would be saved.
That death penalty was ours to pay, not His. Man had sinned against God, Jesus was a pure man, without sin. (2 Cor 5:21). This was not His debt. But He paid it, for everyone!
I like to think of Jesus as our eternal superhero because He only had to die once, and it makes us safe forever! No matter what believers face on this side, we have the comfort and reassurance of knowing that our undefeated life is hid and protected with Christ(see Col 3:3).
Let us rejoice this Easter in knowing that Jesus didn’t risk His life to save ours, He laid it down (See John 10:18). Christ has no nemesis. He willingly gave Himself over to be persecuted, tortured, and crucified so that we would not have to pay this penalty for our own sins.
And because He has the power to lay it down, He also has the power to raise it up again. This was indeed The Master’s plan.
With Jesus the threat of death has no power. Our natural death is not the end, but only the beginning.
